Pastoral Care

At Orion Spires, our pastoral system is central to school life and plays a vital role in supporting students’ personal development, behaviour, attitudes and safeguarding.

Daily morning tutor time provides a consistent and supportive start to the day. During this time, staff monitor students’ wellbeing, attendance and readiness to learn, fostering strong relationships and enabling early intervention where needed. This regular contact ensures that every student feels known, valued and supported.

High expectations for behaviour and conduct are reinforced through structured routines, including line-ups and assemblies. These practices contribute to a calm, orderly and respectful environment where all students can thrive.

Assemblies are a key component of our pastoral provision, addressing important themes such as safeguarding, respect, equality, character development and British values. Through these, we actively promote students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development, helping them to grow into thoughtful and responsible individuals.

Reading for pleasure is embedded within pastoral time, supporting the development of strong literacy skills while encouraging a lifelong love of reading. In addition, carefully planned careers input ensures that students are well informed about future pathways and fully prepared for their next steps.

Through our pastoral approach, we create a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel safe, respected and empowered to succeed both academically and personally.
