Personal Development

At Orion Spires, Personal Development lies at the heart of our mission to nurture confident, resilient and responsible young people, fully prepared for life beyond school. Aligned with the Orion Education Trust Personal Development Framework, our provision is carefully designed across all key stages to ensure every student benefits from a coherent, inclusive and ambitious programme that develops character, wellbeing, citizenship and future readiness.

Our Personal Development curriculum is rich, broad and diverse, embedded throughout daily school life and explicitly delivered through assemblies, tutor time and a dedicated PSHE programme. This includes Relationships and Sex Education, with a strong emphasis on consent, healthy relationships, awareness of sexual harassment, mental and physical wellbeing, digital safety, and understanding the risks associated with drugs, alcohol and gambling. Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) is seamlessly integrated, ensuring students are well informed about future pathways and empowered to make ambitious, informed choices.

Assemblies and collective worship play a vital role in promoting shared values and cultural understanding. These incorporate national awareness events, safeguarding priorities, equality, British values and SMSC development. Religious, philosophical and ethical education is also central, encouraging students to think critically, engage in respectful debate and form well‑informed, balanced opinions. As students’ progress through the school, our curriculum is carefully sequenced and spiralised, enabling them to revisit key themes with increasing depth and maturity.

We pride ourselves on being responsive and adaptable. While our curriculum is clearly structured, we actively respond to local, national and global issues to ensure learning remains current and meaningful. At Key Stage 4, drop‑down days provide opportunities for deeper exploration, while a strong enrichment programme broadens horizons and ensures all students can access experiences beyond the classroom.

Student leadership is a key strength of Orion Spires. Our student leaders play an active role in shaping school culture and contributing to decision‑making. Leadership opportunities are rotated regularly to maximise participation, ensuring all students have the chance to develop their voice, confidence and leadership skills.

The Student Promise underpins our Personal Development offer and reflects our core values of Trust, Kindness and Endeavour. Through this, students are encouraged to take pride in their actions, build positive relationships and embrace both the opportunities and challenges of school life.

By the end of their five‑year journey, we aim to have unlocked each student’s potential, broadened their worldview and prepared them to be thoughtful, active and responsible citizens within their communities and beyond.

Our vision at Orion Spires is that every student is equipped to be the very best they can be and empowered to create their own future.
